Founded in 1968, Northwood was the vision of a group of Greenville-area parents who wanted a place for their children to play ball. Since then, Northwood parents and players have turned that vision into one of South Carolina's most successful Little League organizations.
For five decades, Northwood has turned out successful players at every level of the game. Look around the history of baseball and softball in South Carolina and the nation. You will find Northwood players who have graduated to high school, college, and professional teams.
Northwood's Little League record is evidence of its reputation as a proving ground for the game's talented players. Over the years, Northwood has produced nearly 100 district champions, dozens of state champions, nearly 30 appearances in regionals, and two Little League World Series teams. Most recently, Northwood's 2015 Majors team made it to Williamsport, PA and appeared on ESPN during the LLWS.
Northwood is a organization run by parents and community volunteers who love the game. A Board of Directors works all year long to organize the spring regular season, summer tournament teams, and autumn Fall Ball leagues. While titles and trophies are good validation of the effort, the overall goal isn't something you will see in a trophy case. The league aims to make sure every child who lives in the Northwood area will have a chance to learn and play the world's best game among a community of players and families who all know the value of teamwork.
Today, Northwood players compete at Corey Burns Park. To learn about the man behind the name, see the video below.
