Northwood sweeps South Carolina

Northwood Little League celebrated its 50th year in style: it swept all fourth youth divisions of the South Carolina Little League championships. Northwood's teams won the state title in the Coach Pitch, 8-10, 9-11, and 11-12 divisions. No organization has done that in the history of South Carolina's Little League.

Here's how each of the tournament teams ended up their year.

Congratulations to Northwood's 12U Majors team for making it to the Little League World Series Southeast Regionals and representing South Carolina with tremendous grit and sportsmanship.

To get to that point, the majors won four games at state. They faced off against tough teams, but ultimately never lost a game. In districts, Northwood had to play five games to win the District 7 title. After dropping their first game 3-2 against Greenville Little League, the Northwood squad came back to win four consecutive games--including two wins over Greenville--to lock up the District 7 banner.

The Northwood 11U team had a one-game playoff against Greenville Little League. Despite being down early, the team rallied to a 19-9 win to advance to the state tournament on July 6 in Summerville where it went undefeated. Now, the 11U team went on to represent South Carolina in the Tournament of State Champions.

What a year for Northwood's Minors team. From the time the summer tournament team, the Northwood squad didn't lose a single game until the very last game they possibly could have played. Northwood went undefeated during districts and state. They went across three games of pool play at the Tournament of State Champions. They won their first game in bracket play and went to the championship game. It was only then that they gave up their first loss. Those kids have a lot to be proud about. We can't wait to see what they do next year!

The 2018 Northwood Blue Coach Pitch team ran roughshod over its competition this summer. It captured both a District 7 title and South Carolina state title and brought both banners back to Corey Burns Park. Because there are no tournaments beyond state for this division, the Northwood Blue team literally did the best possible job. Congrats Blue!

The 2018 Coach Pitch softball team had a year where it got super close to a state title. Finishing runner-up to crosstown rivals Northwest earned Northwood a berth into the state tournament. There, Northwood made it all the way to the championship game where it lost a heartbreaker to Northwest. So close!
